Northern Lights

5/12/24

All of my life I’d longed to see

The Aurora Borealis

But Alaska is not for me

And that wish remained in stasis.

.

That changed the tenth of May.

By chance, I caught the evening news.

The Northern Lights were due this way!

At once I planned to see the views.

.

Matt Zaffino of Channel 8

Said peak times were from ten to two.

I started for Mosier and fate

To see the lights or return blue.

.

I didn’t even get to Corbett

When I saw a green haze above

The norther horizon! You bet!

“It’s them!” I shouted, awed, in love.

.

I took cell pictures exalting.

My spirits were somersaulting!

.

Glowing greens  and tall plumes of red

Dazzled wond’ring eyes and ‘mazed head!

.

The show bloomed for precious hours

Bestowing an unlooked-for gift,

Transcending fields of spring flowers,

Giving this heart a lasting lift.
