Exploring in the Navajo Nation

Ever since I visited Mesa Verde and Ute Mountain decades ago, I’ve been fascinated by ancient cliff dwellings in the US southwest. I have to say that my experience seeing Ute Mountain with a Ute guide was one of the most exciting and awe-inspiring things I’ve ever done! I saw ancient sites dating from the 1200’s up close with my guide Rick, and felt like I was Indiana Jones – without the artifacts plundering part.

So, I planned a new trip to the Navajo Nation and did that last month. I’ve written a new travel article about it, complete with great pictures, which is currently out for review and hopefully acceptance by an online travel magazine called Perceptive Travel.

Once I learn that it’s to be published, I’ll post an update with the anticipated publication date.

For now, I’ll just say that it was a really long drive, but seeing Canyon de Chelly and Canyon del Muerto with a Navajo guide was definitely worth it.

Now that I have cliff dwellings out of my system, at least for a while, I’m looking forward to planning a trip to the South Pacific. I intend to write a travel piece about that, too. 🙂
